Another Way to Release Tension, Sculpt, and Contour the Facial Features
In an age where non-invasive and holistic approaches to self-care are increasingly popular, we witness the emergence of many new techniques—gua sha, cupping, tapping, and more. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to one of my personal favorites: Intra Buccal Massage! This innovative method, embraced by many celebrities, not only helps release tension but also sculpts and contours facial features from within. Let’s dive into why buccal massage definitely deserves a place in your skincare routine!
What is Buccal Massage?
Buccal massage is a unique facial technique that works both from the outside and inside the mouth. Like a deep tissue massage for the face, it efficiently releases tension, improves circulation, and promotes youthful skin. This method is particularly effective for addressing skin issues around the mouth, such as nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and jowls, as well as neck pain and headaches due to teeth clenching.
The Benefits
Relaxation of the neck and facial muscles
A more lifted and sculpted appearance
Improved blood circulation
Reduced puffiness
Brighter, more “awake” looking skin
Relief from temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) and tension headaches
Emotional stress relief
Buccal massage combines muscle relaxation techniques with lymphatic drainage. By relaxing the mouth, platysma, and masseter muscles while also stimulating lymphatic drainage, a single session can leave your skin looking radiant, plump, and glowing. Additionally, it provides relaxed muscles and sculpted contours. With a series of treatments, you can expect more contoured cheeks, fewer visible lines, and an overall improved complexion.
Although it has recently gained popularity for its aesthetic benefits, buccal massage was initially developed to treat TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction). By relaxing facial muscles, it can help alleviate TMJ-related pain and assist those who tend to clench or grind their teeth.
Buccal massage also offers emotional benefits. Our face expresses a range of emotions, and we often hold tension related to stress, sadness, anger, and happiness there. Manually releasing this tension can lead to emotional relief. Anatomically, the face has many nerve endings, and stimulating them can induce deep relaxation throughout the entire body.
Can Massage Replace Botox and Fillers?
The aging process of our face involves multiple factors, including slower collagen production, loss of subcutaneous fat, and accumulation of muscle tension, which leads to expression lines. Our Intra Buccal Massage specifically addresses this last factor.
To reverse and prevent the folds created by tense muscles, we need to relax them. This is the concept behind Botox—paralyzing the muscles. However, a side effect is that muscles can weaken over time (similar to how an immobilized arm atrophies in a cast due to lack of stimulation).
Facial massage, on the other hand, not only relaxes muscles but also stimulates them, much like a good workout strengthens and adds volume.
While Botox offers immediate results, facial massage requires more dedication and regular sessions to achieve comparable effects. The advantage is that massage won’t alter your facial expression and provides a relaxing experience. You don’t need to suffer to look beautiful!
What to Expect
I offer Buccal Massagee in the Cusom Face Massage. The service begins with an observation of your face to identify specific areas of tension. Next, I cleanse your skin and choose a specific serum and oil tailored to your skin type. I start with a shoulder and neck massage to release tension and prepare for lymphatic drainage. Then, I warm up the facial muscles with deep sculpting and lifting movements; I may also include cupping. The buccal part of the massage typically lasts about 10-15 minutes. I finish with global drainage and smooth movements before cleansing the skin again and applying serum, cream, and sunscreen.
How Often?
As I always say, it depends on the results you want to achieve and your commitment! Results are cumulative. For rejuvenation, I usually recommend weekly treatments for 5-6 sessions, followed by monthly maintenance. For relaxation or age prevention, once a month is ideal!
